Bookplate of William Byrd of Westover

Engraved bookplate of William Byrd (1674-1744) of Westover Plantation

Intricate armorial design, inscribed “William Byrd of Westover / in Virginia Esqr.” at lower edge.

Circa 1725

Why we love it:  William Byrd was one of Virginia’s most iconic early figures and his library was everything to him. Considering he loathed people borrowing his books, its nice to have one of his bookplates.
